New Release: Second Choice

Ever wonder what goes on inside the head of the talented and fun Ginger Solomon? Well, I’ve got the answers for you!

Ginger Solomon is a Christian, a wife, a mother to seven, and a writer—in that order (mostly). When not homeschooling her youngest four, doing laundry or fixing dinner, sheGinger picture writes or reads romance of any genre. She’s a member of American Christian Fiction Writers, president of her local writing group, and writes regularly for two blogs.

Can you tell us about your upcoming book?

Second Choice is book two in my Belikarian Weddings Series. While book one, One Choice, featured Prince Josiah, this book is about his sister, Princess Anaya. Here’s the blurb:

Set to be married in less than a month, Princess Anaya Vallis’s intended disappears, leaving only a cryptic note behind. Her father insists the wedding go forth as planned with a new groom. She has days to make a second choice.

Titus Vasco is like a ship without a rudder, floating through life without purpose. Until she calls. He accepts her proposal without hesitation.

But wedded bliss does not come easily. Two virtual strangers brought together by unforeseen circumstances must learn to trust each other and God’s plan for their lives, in order to achieve the happily-ever-after they both long for.

Tell us a little bit about the series.

The Belikarian Weddings Series takes place in a small fictional country in the Aegean Sea. ~Book one is about Crown Prince Josiah and the Bridal March, which takes place because tradition demands he take a wife of his own choosing by his twenty-fifth birthday. If he has not, then fifty women are gathered, and he is given six months to choose one of them to be his bride.

~Book two is about his sister, Princess Anaya.

~Book three, tentatively titled Love’s Choice, is about a guard that has been in the palace since his birth, and after the death of his parents, the king takes full responsibility for him, treating him like a son.

The first two books are marriage of convenience type books, but the third is not. They are all contemporary romance.

Are you an outliner or pantser?    I lean more toward being a pantser, but I do some leg work before writing. I like to know what my characters look like, how old they are, and I set up a calendar to help me keep up with events as they happen. I wouldn’t want a snow storm to show up in the middle of June.

Any tips on how to get through the dreaded writer’s block?    I do one of two things if I’m stuck in a story. One, I back up a scene or two. If I don’t know where to go, it usually means I’ve written myself into a corner and need to rethink my story a little. Two, I have a “play” story that I mess around with. It’s a fantasy, so there are no restrictions on what I can do in it. I don’t expect it to ever get published—though my daughter likes it the best of all my stories.

What are some of your hobbies?    Outside of writing, I like to do all manner of crafts. I can sew, cross-stitch, knit, crochet, and a few other things. I’d love to learn to paint, but time—yeah, well. I also spend a great deal of time reading.

Let’s get to the important question. Do you have any pets?    I, personally, have a dog—a

Miniature Australian Shepherd named Zorro. We also have a cat, Peeta, but he belongs to my son.

Where is one place you want to visit that you haven’t been before?    Scotland and Ireland. I know that’s two places, but I think they are so close that I couldn’t go see one without seeing the other as well.

Tea or coffee?   TEA!

If you could bring one of your characters to life, who would it be?    Wow. Hmm. I think the king in my Belikarian books. He is very wise.

Do you have any advice for other writers?    If you write because you can’t NOT write, then never give up. Keep learning the craft. Keep writing.

Can you share a little of your book with us?    Here’s a short excerpt from the first chapter, after Anaya has informed her father, the king, that her groom has left.

“Maybe it’s better this way.” The king rested his hand on Princess Anaya’s shoulder. “God may have someone better in mind for you.”

“Perhaps.” She twisted away, wishing her mother were here and not at the spa. “I’m sorry, Baba.”

“Come here, my benim kizim.” He pulled her into his arms.

She stiffened at the unexpected show of affection. He held tight, and she relaxed against his chest. He couldn’t have known how much she needed the hug. Her tears wet the front of his linen shirt. He didn’t seem to notice.

“God loves you. He has the perfect husband for you. Trust Him.” He kissed the top of her head and then set her away from him. “Now, go pray and make your choice. Listen to God’s voice. He will show you whom you should choose.”
